It’s that point in the day that the kids are crawling up the walls and getting into trouble just because it’s something to do. The to-do list is a mile long and as much as I want to throw it – and maybe even my darling children out the window on occasion – it’s hard to power through and find my focus and not feel like throwing in the towel and starting again tomorrow.
Because if I do that? Then what?
Tomorrow we will reach a point in the day that this “full-time-work-from-home-mama” will again have children crawling up the walls and my to-do list will be even longer and my kids will be even more unattended to because I can’t EVEN even and I will likely find a quiet corner and hide until I can tag out of life for the day.
Or… I can make a different decision… which, on my good days… I really, really try to make.
I try to take a deep breath and remember – My inspiration. Why am I doing this? Why do I do what I do? Why do I bother with this lifestyle and why don’t I just pull the plug on the whole thing and eat bon bons while watching soaps?
My inspiration is to glorify God. My heart is to help nourish families in their relationships with each other. Including my own family. Pursuing intentional moments and cultivating our relationships with each other. To be an example to my children and the wife my husband deserves. To pay it forward to others that God puts in my path. To cultivate that through meaningful portrait photography, business consulting and management for entrepreneurs, by teaching practical stewardship and home management systems, and creating simple products and tools that maximize the quality of our lives and livelihood.
If I don’t take a deep breath and remember that, then those – hiding in the corner days – are more than likely going to happen. I mean – let’s be real – there are days when we just grab the keys and go to the beach – because HELLO it’s beautiful there and these days are few and far between. But then the other days, when dinner is calling and the laundry needs to be put away and my to-do list is growing… it all needs to come back into focus and remember that I am capable of accomplishing my to-dos and spending time with my children. And the days that I don’t – it’s almost always because I have forgotten why I do what I do.
One of my favorite passages from Marianne Williamson :
““Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
